Three authors with daggers drawn
Three Chairs for Crime
Join three McIlvanney Prize listed authors as they each take the chair to discuss different aspects of the crime-writing genre and explore what it takes to make the perfect crime novel. Andrew James Greig writes crime with lyrical turn of phrase. His DI Corstorphine series is set in Fort William and his first book – ‘Whirligig’ – was shortlisted for the McIlvanney in 2020. Allan Martin sets his books in the Western Isles and Estonia. His first novel ‘The Peat Dead’ was shortlisted for the McIlvanney Debut Prize in 2019. Allan started writing when he retired, so he’s a great advocate for the more mature debut writer. Deborah Masson sets her books in the granite city of Aberdeen. Her debut ‘Hold your Tongue’ won the debut prize in 2020. Her third book, ‘From the Ashes’ has been long listed for this year’s McIlvanney Prize. All three writers are part of the Caledonia Crime Collective, a group of like- minded Scottish Crime writers who have all recently started to make their names in tartan noir.
