Pen Reid’s ‘Invalid’ is a sharp exposure of a family living with debilitating illness. The collection’s nuanced representation of Multiple Sclerosis displays both the physical and psychological effect of such a life-changing condition. Her work speaks to anyone who faces a degenerative disease whether as patient,carer, family member, friend. Ultimately Reid’s portrait is optimistic, and the stark tone catalyses a unique representation of illness and familial love. She says: “poetry has provided me with a voice to express the unspeakable”. Her journey to began with a grant from a Carer's Grant from VOCAL in 2014. She is passionate about the therapeutic power of writing poetry. She has   performed her work at 2016 Edinburgh Fringe to a 5 star review and received    enthusiastic reviews at several other festivals and events.
