2021: Pentlands Book Festival is back face-to-face but cautiously.  Bake-Off’s champion is a hit.

Covid protocols were still in operation, masks were worn and personal details had to be collected.  So, we prepared a small programme, with a few of the old favourite events returning.

People were wary of face-to-face meetings in enclosed spaces.  However, this did not deter keen competition for tickets to Peter Sawkins, Currie’s Bake-Off champion’s session in the Corner Café.

The former School Head Girl chaired this session with Peter, the former Head Boy, for a very enjoyable evening.  Later that month George Macrae Burnet entertained a different audience with his gruesome “His Bloody Project”.  This was chaired by the café’s book club organizer.  The author had been requested by the book club itself.

Sadly, an ambitious booking of Peter Beaumont the cyclist had to be cancelled at the very last moment at Currie Rugby Club.

Jacqui Bonell joined the committee, and at the end of the Festival founder members Richard Watt and Cliff Beevers (chair) stood down.
